PDO Threads

Threads - A Minimally Invasive Facelift

PDO Threads are reabsorbable surgical sutures composed of biodegradable polymers. We use this technique to return sagging skin to it’s proper place without the harsh side effects and downtime of surgery. The treatment is minimally invasive and produces instant results. Polydioxanone (PDO) sutures are used for biomedical applications, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery.  Reason being, it is fully absorbed by hydrolysis within 4 to 6 months and doesn’t create any scar tissue. The foreign body stimulates collagen synthesis and the skin structure created will hold for 12 to 15 months.

A PDO Thread face lift can treat the outer brow, cheeks (including sagging in the main cheek), naso-labial or nose to mouth, lower eye areas, jawline, and neck. Many of these areas can be performed at the same time.

How do PDO Threads work?

Bodyology uses a special medical grade thread that is thinner than hair, and made of protein. Research has confirmed that PDO relaxes tendons and muscles, while causing a foreign body reaction to improve the blood flow to the area. This action stimulates neocollagenesis (the production of new collagen in the deep layers of the skin). It also stimulates elastin and hyaluronic acid, which are naturally occurring in healthy skin, and are key to maintaining firm, youthful looking skin.

Change is seen immediately after the procedure. Over the coming weeks, results will continue to improve.  It peaks at around 6 months and lasts for up to 2 years.  Your own body will continue to produce more collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The thread itself is completely biodegradable and dissolves within 12 weeks.  After which, new collagen has formed around the thread to continue to support results, maintaining a smooth and supple texture of the skin.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Generally healthy adults with good mental and physical health, non-smoking, and mild to moderate skin laxity are usually good candidates.  It is equally suitable for both men and women. During your FREE CONSULTATION, we will review your health history and help you decide if this procedure is right for you. Each patient is unique, and a thread lift is tailored to each individual depending on age, degree of flaccidity and facial structure.

Young patients could be a good candidate if they are looking to improve the lower part of their face. For women between the ages of 25 and 45, a thread lift is effective in eliminating wrinkles due to early signs of aging. Starting in their 50’s, women can benefit from a thread lift to reduce wrinkles and sagging of the skin.
